The joint venture will enable SMS group to expand its range of products and services by the planning and supply of plant and equipment for the production of copper, lead, zinc, tin and other non-ferrous metals. PolyMet Solutions will offer innovative processes and solutions for primary concentrate melters, converters (such as Peirce Smith converters) and anode furnaces. It will thus be possible to supply complete process routes, extending as far as electrolysis and the subsequent processing of semi-finished products.
SMS is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of metallurgical plantmaking and mechanical engineering and, in the 2015 fiscal year, it generated sales of around EUR 3.3 billion with approx. 14,000 employees. In the 2015 fiscal year and with 18 employees, Mettop achieved annual sales of € 3 mio. and for the past ten years has been operating successfully in the fields of engineering, supply of core components and refractory design for the non-ferrous metals industry. Mettop has attained a special position on the international market thanks to its core products ILTEC cooling technology and METTOP-BRX electrolysis technology.
