New Chief Technology Officer at Thyssenkrupp Steel

Dr. Arnd Köfler (photo) has been appointed to the executive board of Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG effective January 1, 2017. He succeeds Dr. Herbert Eichelkraut as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and will be responsible for upstream operations, i. e. steel production from pig iron to crude steel to finished slab.

After graduating in mechanical engineering, Dr. Köfler (49) began his career in 1993 at Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH (HKM) in Duisburg. He has worked in the steel division of Thyssenkrupp since 2013, most recently as Head of Production (Rolling and Coating) in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth. His predecessor Dr. Herbert Eichelkraut (60) has worked at Thyssenkrupp and HKM since 1988 in various roles including that of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Thyssenkrupp CSA in Brazil. Dr. Eichelkraut joined the executive board of Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG on January 1, 2012.
“With his profound knowledge and expertise, Dr. Eichelkraut has been a key factor in the development of our company,” says Andreas Goss, CEO of Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG. “By championing investments to modernize our production network, he played a major role in increasing our competitiveness.” Dr. Eichelkraut will remain available to Thyssenkrupp’s steel division in an advisory capacity.
