A topic of concern for all mill operators gets comprehensively covered by global steel association worldsteel once a year. Its “Safety and health in the steel industry” report gives an overview not only of the kind of precautions and accidents to look out for, but also draws a distinction how accidents differ between the staff employed by the mills themselves, and the staff sent by external providers. This and more mill management issues make one key theme of this issue.
The other focus is on scrap in steelmaking, which has raised increasing awareness in recent years, and will likely bring a shift in the balance of raw materials in the years to come. Read about new scrap sorts for use in blast furnaces, about the cooperation of mills and carmakers, and what plantbuilders are anticipating in this regard.
This issue is again featuring a special section, this time on UNITECR, the Unified Technical Conference on Refractories. It will run in for the 18th time this year, calling the industry to Frankfurt/Main from 26 to 29 September, highlighting the ambitious thesis “No green steel without refractories”.
