Primetals Technologies has received an order from Nucor Steel Berkeley, a division of US steelmaker Nucor Corporation, for a new hot-dip galvanising (FVZ) line for the automotive industry. The line will be installed at Nucor’s plant in Huger, South Carolina. Nucor Corporation is the largest steel producer in North America and the largest recycler of materials in the Americas.

Advanced technology for modern plants

After the completed delivery, Nucor Steel Berkeley will have one of the most modern FVZ plants. With an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 tonnes, the new facility will increase the company’s galvanised steel production capacity and enable the site to produce high-strength steel (AHSS) and other automotive steels. The company is committed to shifting its product mix to higher margin and value-added products, and the new plant will help them do this. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in mid-2025.

Nucor’s decision to go with Primetals Technologies was based on several factors. Primetals Technologies met all technical requirements and will leverage the strengths of its global organisation during the project execution phase. Local specialists at Primetals Technologies’ service workshop in Huger will carry out the pre-assembly on site and support the installation and modification of the equipment.
