29.06.2021. German-based burner manufacturer IBS Industrial Burner Systems will deliver more than 250 new recuperative burners. The order was placed by Tenova LOI Thermprocess and is part of a wider modernisation project of a continuous galvanising line at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe in Bochum, Germany.
New recuperative burners
The burners are designated for Single Ended Radiant Tubes (I-tubes) and W-Type Radiant Tubes. The new combustion system meets even highest requirements by targeting NOx emissions lower than 140 mg/Nm³ @ 3% O2-reference at target strip temperatures above 900 °C. Delivery of the new combustion system will take place until end of 2021, commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
“This order is the latest of numerous appreciations of our efforts to provide state-of-the-art combustion systems for our customers” states Bernd Machovsky, Managing Partner of IBS. His co-partner Thomas Wolf emphasises: “Our ambition at IBS is to provide environmentally sound and energy efficient solutions for all kinds of continuous strip lines, no matter if W-, double-P or I-Radiant Tube fired.”

Thomas Wolf and Bernd Machovsky, Managing Partner of IBS Industrial Burner Systems GmbH.
With their Loopfire® technology IBS is able to achieve very low NOx emissions simultaneously with highest thermal efficiencies of W-Type radiant tube burners, even when burning gases such as Coke Oven Gas (COG) and Coke-Oven / Blast-Furnace (COG/BFG) Mixed Gas. Over the last couple of years, IBS delivered thousands of Loopfire Radiant Tube Burners for new or for the revamping of existing furnaces. The Loopfire system makes the continued use of already installed W-radiant tubes possible, which is an enormous cost advantage when refurbishing existing lines. With IBS’ auto recuperative Recufire®-burner series for I- and double-P-radiant tubes, NOx-emissions below 100 mg/Nm³ @ 3% O2 at typical heat treatment temperatures are possible.
