ITPS 2017, the second International Thermprocess Summit, held at the InterContinental Hotel in Düsseldorf, Germany, concluded successfully on June 28. About 120 executives from Europe and the U.S. participated in the high-quality lecture program focusing on current issues in the thermoprocess industry, exchanged information and ideas, and established business contacts. A show with international exhibitors was also part of ITPS 2017. The two-day event was jointly organized by Messe Düsseldorf, the VDMA Metallurgy Trade Association, the European thermoprocess association CECOF, and the Vulkan Verlag publishing company (“heat processing” magazine).

Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) has commissioned SMS group to complete a comprehensive upgrade of the process automation system at its hot strip mill in Butler, Indiana, marking an important step toward long‑term maintainability and increased operational flexibility of one of its core production assets.
On May 13, after just five days from the first cast, the first coil was successfully produced at the new Arvedi ESP (endless strip production) plant from Primetals Technologies at Zhongshou Special Steel’s facilities in Luanzhou, Hebei Province, China. On May 16, the plant had already started operating in endless mode.
