The project is part of JSW Steel’s strategic expansion plans to increase the annual capacity of the existing steel mill by an impressive 3.7 million tons. One of the particular highlights of the new BOF converter, which will be one of the largest in India, is a modern oxygen lancing system with a maximum blowing capacity of 1,250 Nm³/min, which will contribute significantly to increasing the plant’s production efficiency.
Furthermore, plant of JSW will be equipped with an innovative automation system that allows the operator a complete overview of the plant without having to switch back and forth between different automation levels. In addition, the SMS scope of supply includes various process optimization models, which include process control, production strategies and metallurgical models to ensure consistent quality and production reliability.
This order demonstrates the good business relationship between JSW Steel and SMS and strengthens SMS’s position as a technology leader and preferred supplier in the steel industry. In addition to the new steel mill equipment, SMS was able to secure separate orders for a new blast furnace with an annual capacity of 4.5 tons and a new CSP® Nexus plant in 2024; the latter is capable of producing hot strip and plate with a maximum width of 2,600 millimeters in a single integrated casting and rolling line.
The project also represents a significant milestone for JSW Steel, as the company is further consolidating its pioneering role in the steel industry by utilizing the groundbreaking technology of SMS. Together with the new blast furnace and the CSP® Nexus plant, this project will enable JSW to produce materials of the highest quality. The new steelworks will go into operation in 2026.
