Hoa Phat Invests in High-Quality Long Casting and Rolling Line from Primetals Technologies

On April 10, 2025, Hoa Phat signed a contract with Primetals Technologies for the supply and implementation of a long product caster with a capacity of 1 million tons per year and a rolling line with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons. With this line, Hoa Phat Group will boost the production of high-quality steel. The rolling line is expected to commence operations in the third quarter of 2026, and the casting line in the fourth quarter.

Primetals Technologies will design, supply, and install a billet/bloom/beam blank casting machinefor Hoa Phat. The caster will feature a wide range of advanced solutions, including DynaGap Soft Reduction, which ensures superior internal strand quality. The casting area includes a standby solution for large-section-size casting, enabling the production of blooms and beam blanks for steel profiles up to 800 millimeters wide, ideal for the structural steel industry.

A comprehensive Level 1 and 2 automation system will enable Hoa Phat to control and influence the entire casting process. DynaPhase, a thermodynamic phase transformation model, calculates steel behavior during solidification based on thermal enthalpy, conductivity, and density. This data feeds into Dynacs 3D, a secondary-cooling model, which calculates the full 3D temperature profile at any position along the strand to achieve optimal adjustment of secondary-cooling setpoints. DynaGap Soft Reduction 3D then applies dynamic roll-gap control to reduce centerline segregation and enhance internal strand quality.

State-of-the-Art Wire Rod Mill Line

Primetals Technologies will also provide Hoa Phat with a comprehensive scope of high-quality wire rod rolling line equipment. The technology comprises a complete state-of-the-art long rolling processing line, including 18 no-housing stands and mill shears, a 10-stand eDrive NTM, and a Morgan RSM with integrated single-family rolling to ensure high product quality. This setup allows Hoa Phat to consistently deliver premium products while reducing alloying and energy costs. Additional production advantages include optimal coil packages enabled by metallurgical in-line heat treatment, Morgan Water Boxes, and a Morgan Stelmor Controlled Cooling Conveyor. The Long Rolling Process Expert automation solution will further enhance interconnectivity and plant management. Its intuitive interface allows operators to monitor plant performance and optimize production processes.

The new equipment from Primetals Technologies will support our production of steel for the railway industry, i.e. train axles and high-speed trains, as well as high-quality steel for key national projects and for export to the world market,” said Tran Dinh Long, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Hoa Phat Group.

Hoa Phat is Vietnam’s leading industrial manufacturing group and the largest steel producer in Southeast Asia. The new line will produce steel for automobile tire bead, i.e. tire cord and bead wire, fabricated steel, bearing steel, prestressed steel, and a wide range of other high-quality products.
