Grand opening of Wuppermann Metalltechnik GmbH’s new tube plant in Altmünster
Wuppermann Metalltechnik GmbH (WMT) has officially opened its new tube plant at the Altmünster site with a ceremonial event.
More than 100 guests – including business partners and employees, as well as representatives from politics and industry – attended the event on 24 April 2026 and were given an exclusive insight into one of Europe’s most modern tube plants. A family day for all the plant’s employees and their families on Saturday, 25 April 2026, rounded off the celebrations.
Through this investment, WMT is not only expanding its own production capacity but also significantly broadening its product range: the new state-of-the-art facility will manufacture, among other things, complex special profiles with wall thicknesses of up to 4 mm and an extended range of dimensions and strengths. Steel grades such as DP800, DP980 and 22MnB5, with tensile strengths of up to 1,000 MPa, will be processed. Fully automated raw material and finished goods warehouses, as well as highly digitised logistics and production processes, also ensure maximum efficiency.
In July 2023, the Wuppermann Group announced an investment of 40 million euros in the construction of the new tube plant: “The Wuppermann family attaches great importance to the long-term and sustainable development of the company. With this decision, we are taking a major technological step forward in the field of tubes and profiles and enabling future growth without jeopardising our financial stability,” explains Dr C.L. Theodor Wuppermann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Wuppermann AG, regarding the decision.
“This significant investment by the Wuppermann Group has resulted in the creation of one of the most modern tube mills in the world. It enables us to remain the quality leader for our customers, manufacture with maximum efficiency, benefit from a very high level of digitalisation and automation, and safeguard European production,” explains Oliver Rechtsprecher, Spokesman for the Executive Board of Wuppermann AG.
“With this greenfield project, we have seized the opportunity to incorporate occupational safety, ergonomics, energy efficiency and sustainability from the outset and to design them in the best possible way,” adds Georg Wildauer, Managing Director at WMT.
Earthworks began in early 2024, during which around 70,000 m³ of earth was moved to reach the level of the existing plant. This was followed by the construction of the new hall complex. For the 8,860 m² hall area, 100 precast concrete columns were installed. To enable climate-neutral heating in the future, WMT had geothermal probes with a total length of around 5,000 metres installed. Hall assembly began in August 2024, and all roof and façade work was completed by the turn of the year. From March 2025, the first machines for the highly automated tube welding line arrived. The first tube was produced as early as July 2025 – an important step towards the full commissioning of Tube Plant 4.0. With the commissioning of the inline rolling stand and the tube internal scraping unit in September 2025, the conditions were created for the production of premium products with the tightest tolerances.
In addition to the new state-of-the-art profile line, WMT’s existing tube welding line will remain in operation; to increase efficiency, it will be relocated to the new hall complex. WMT can now offer its customers significantly greater capacity and a wider range of dimensions.
