The 7,968-square-meter facility is strategically located near several major steel producers and will offer a full range of advanced maintenance and refurbishment services. The opening ceremony featured a technological seminar, where customers and industry leaders were introduced to the workshop’s advanced capabilities.
“This service workshop represents a significant step forward in our commitment to supporting our customers in Brazil and beyond, in line with our motto ‘Next Level Services Now,’” said Eberhard Karnitsch-Einberger, Head of Global Business Unit Metallurgical Services at Primetals Technologies. “It is a game-changer for the region. Our investment in advanced technologies and our strategic location underscore our dedication to supporting the growth of Brazil’s steel and industrial sectors.”
The new facility in Brazil sets a benchmark for efficiency, traceability, and sustainability in metallurgical services. In addition to its core business of caster roll maintenance and nickel plating, it introduces innovative coating technologies for flat rolling mills, galvanizing lines, and other critical equipment.
Enhanced Capabilities for Flat Rolling Maintenance
The Santa Cruz workshop is equipped to handle maintenance work for hot and cold rolling mills, as well as galvanizing line rollers. Advanced technologies such as laser cladding and high-velocity coating systems (HVOF and HVAF) enable precise and durable refurbishments. The site also includes a state-of-the-art mechatronics and hydraulics test center.
These capabilities are designed to meet the growing demands of Brazil’s steel and industrial sectors, helping to extend equipment lifespans and boost reliability. The workshop also supports the repair of critical components for industries beyond steel, including mining, oil and gas, wind energy, and paper production.
Driving Digitalization and Traceability
The service workshop leverages advanced digital tools, such as the Maintenance and Asset Technology (MAT) system, to automate workflows, enhance traceability, and ensure rigorous quality control. Operational activities are fully tracked and documented, providing customers with reliable, real-time data and complete transparency throughout every step of the repair process.
“Digitalization is at the core of this workshop’s design,” said Gabriel Lenna, CEO of Primetals Technologies Brazil. “Our digital ecosystem enables faster, safer, and more predictable services for our customers. With this state-of-the-art facility, we deliver not only operational excellence but also full asset traceability, enhanced decision-making capabilities, and the protection and evolution of our technical know-how. We are confident in our ability to help customers extend the lifetime of their equipment, reduce risks, and achieve sustainable business outcomes.”
Strategic Location
Located near key transportation routes, the Santa Cruz workshop is ideally positioned to serve Brazil’s industrial heartland. The facility has already secured its first refurbishment contracts and is actively engaging with additional customers to showcase its capabilities.
