“Where metal comes alive” is the slogan that perfectly captures the focus of this edition of AMB, where stakeholders across the entire supply chain come together to explore technologies, innovations, services, and solutions in all their facets.

In this spirit, Eural Gnutti’s participation in the event represents an important opportunity to showcase its high-performance aluminum alloys and strengthen collaboration with machine builders and tool manufacturers by pooling its accumulated expertise regarding the balance between material performance and production process efficiency.

EURAL’s 2033 LEAD-FREE Alloy: The Sustainable Evolution of High Machinability

All eyes are on the 2033 alloy, developed by Eural to anticipate increasingly stringent restrictions on the use of lead while ensuring a high level of productivity and quality in machining. This alloy combines high machinability in key machining operations—such as turning, milling, drilling, and thread cutting—with process stability and outstanding surface properties, particularly thanks to its excellent suitability for anodizing. The 2033 builds on the legacy of historic alloys with high machinability and reinterprets it in light of the demands of today’s manufacturing industry. While the alloys developed in the second half of the 20th century were designed primarily for mechanical machine tools, Eural’s offering was developed to meet the characteristics of modern CNC machines and fully exploit their potential. The goal is not simply to replace a historical alloy such as 2011, but to offer customers a solution that increases productivity while ensuring process stability. Thanks to its metallurgical properties, the 2033 enables particularly demanding machining operations to be performed while maintaining dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and effective chip management, which has a tangible positive impact on cycle times. In applications on multi-spindle machines, the alloy allows for operation at high speeds and high pressure, as well as the programming of fixed cycles. Furthermore, it represents an excellent and practical alternative to other metallic materials, particularly brass, due in part to the low melting point of the bismuth contained in its composition. In addition to its machining performance, the 2033 stands out for its environmental profile, which aligns with Eural Gnutti’s commitment to more sustainable production models. The alloy complies with the RoHS Directive and was designed to allow for the use of a high proportion of recycled aluminum—with peak values of up to 95%. This helps reduce the use of primary raw materials without compromising the quality standards required for the most demanding applications.

Machining Trials: Eural’s Added Value in Service of the Customer

The machining trials conducted for over fifteen years with customers in Europe, the United States, and Asian countries have enabled Eural Gnutti to build up a wealth of application knowledge gained directly from practical experience. These trials, conducted on conventional machining centers, multi-spindle lathes, and the latest-generation CNC machining centers, allow us to analyze how alloys behave under various production conditions and translate this experience into tangible added value for each specific application. Machinery, tools, process parameters, and part geometries can significantly influence the final result. For this reason, Eural Gnutti supports customers in identifying the most effective solution, working closely with machine and tool manufacturers. This approach extends the value of the supply beyond the material itself, thanks to direct collaboration with the entire supply chain and a holistic perspective that combines metallurgical expertise, process knowledge, and the ability to understand specific production requirements.

“Over the years, we’ve tackled virtually every application scenario,” explains Alexandru Mosneaga, a machining expert at Eural Gnutti, adding, “We work with companies that still use conventional machines as well as those equipped with state-of-the-art CNC systems. Every situation requires a different solution, but the goal always remains the same: to help the customer get the most out of the combination of alloy, machine, and tool. This is precisely the added value we’ll be showcasing at AMB.”

The technical team present at the trade show (Booth 8D51) will be available to supply chain stakeholders—from machine builders and tool manufacturers to end users—to discuss specific cases, analyze critical production problems, and identify the most suitable alloy for various applications, with a particular focus on replacing traditional lead-containing alloys.

At AMB, Eural Gnutti positions itself as a technical partner capable of supporting the technological evolution of the manufacturing industry, harmonizing metallurgical innovations, sustainability, and application expertise with the specific requirements of new production scenarios.
