The Condoor® technology is set to improve the performance of electric arc furnace #2 by increasing the yield and improving safety with manless operation on the floor. These enhancements are expected to provide Celsa Barcelona with OPEX savings and operational efficiencies, aligning with their commitment to sustainable steelmaking practices. The delivery of the Condoor® system is planned for November 2025.

This order follows the successful implementation of the Condoor® system in EAF #1, further cementing the cooperative relationship between Celsa Barcelona and SMS group. The ongoing cooperation agreement between the two companies underscores their shared vision for innovation and excellence in the steel industry.

Special technical features

One of the standout features of the Condoor® systems is the water-cooled pusher, which enhances the durability and efficiency of the technology. This feature, coupled with the advanced design of the Condoor® systems, positions Celsa Barcelona at the forefront of modern steelmaking technology.

As Celsa Barcelona prepares to integrate these advanced systems into their operations, both companies anticipate significant improvements in production efficiency and environmental performance. SMS group remains committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions that meet the evolving needs of the steel industry.

What is Condoor®?

Maximizing yield and optimizing energy efficiency are vital for cost efficiency and environmental sustainability in electric steelmaking. The Condoor® system, an automatic slag door concept, pioneered man-less operations by acting as a slag valve control. It precisely manages slag volume and atmosphere within the EAF, reducing material losses, improving yield, optimizing energy consumption and decreasing electrode usage. Condoor® is adaptable for retrofitting existing installations, making it ideal for modernization projects. Its versatile design accommodates all types of solid and liquid raw material charges, ensuring stability and repeatability in the melting process.
