Organised as a hybrid event, the conference will bring together researchers and industry experts to discuss current developments in cellular and architected materials.
Hosted at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), CellMAT will be held directly at a university for the first time. According to the organisers, the choice of venue is intended to strengthen the exchange between scientific research and industrial practice. Lectures, poster sessions and the accompanying exhibition will take place at FAU’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
From foams to additive manufacturing
CellMAT 2026 covers cellular materials across different material classes, including metals, ceramics, polymers and composites. The conference addresses foams, lattices, honeycombs, scaffolds and other porous or architected structures, with topics ranging from manufacturing and characterisation to modelling and industrial applications.
The programme spans twelve thematic areas. These include general processing, functionalisation and surface modification, material characterisation and simulation, standardisation, additive manufacturing, energy and thermal management as well as sustainability and recycling. Digitalisation and artificial intelligence will also form a dedicated topic area. Further sessions will address cellular materials for catalysis and sorption, biomedical applications, transportation as well as geopolymers and refractory materials.
A particular focus will be placed on application-oriented research. Cellular materials are increasingly used for lightweight and crash-resistant structures, thermal and acoustic management, filtration, catalysis, energy conversion and biomedical applications. At the same time, the conference will cover fundamental questions such as structure–property relationships, deformation, fracture and fatigue.
Hybrid format connects on-site and online participants
All sessions will be broadcast live from Erlangen via the conference platform. Both on-site and online participants can follow the scientific programme and interact with speakers. Recordings of the presentations will remain available on demand for two weeks after the event.
Researchers can currently submit proposals for poster pitches and posters. The deadline for these contributions is 10 November 2026. Abstracts must be submitted in English. Registration for both on-site and online participation is also open.
Further information on the programme, registration and submission is available on the CellMAT 2026 website.
