This challenge is particularly relevant for the battery industry, which must rapidly expand production for e-mobility while simultaneously minimizing its environmental footprint.
This book investigates how permissioned blockchain technologies combined with smart contracts can enable reliable, comparable, and traceable product-specific sustainability indicators, such as carbon footprint and recycled content. In doing so, it demonstrates how blockchain-based systems can support compliance with the EU Battery Regulation and the implementation of the digital battery passport. The findings show how enhanced data transparency across multiple production stages can improve sustainability assessments and support more informed decision-making in battery production networks.
