Becker Aluminum-Service GmbH is presenting two groundbreaking premieres at this year’s ALUMINIUM Düsseldorf, the world-leading trade show in the industry.

Pioneering two new solutions, the market’s innovation leader Becker Aluminum is closing a significant gap in the recycling of aluminum. The company is a subsidiary of Klöckner & Co SE, Duisburg, one of the world’s largest producer-independent distributors of steel and metal products,

Both the Upcycling Marketplace, which is being implemented in cooperation with the online trading platform RESOUREX, and the LOOP Back Service will be launched at the ALUMINIUM trade show, the industry’s world-leading event (October 8-10, 2024,  Düsseldorf, Germany), by Becker and its sister company Kloeckner Metals Germany, at their joint stand 4 C 27.

Upcycling: Digital Service Center meets Digital Trading Platform

With demand still rising, global aluminum production has increased by 87% between 2008 and 2022. An annual increase of an additional 3.6% is forecast by the end of the decade. However, the production of primary aluminum involves a great deal of effort, costs and emissions due to the highly energy-intensive smelting process. This is where the new Becker Aluminum Upcycling comes in: Upcycling is a sustainable and highly efficient solution for giving slow mover products a ’second life’, while reducing scrap, conserving resources and protecting the environment. As a result, it can help to significantly reduce the CO2 footprint and avoid new emissions.

The Becker Aluminum Upcycling is based on the introduction of the first digital (real-time) alternative market for scrap, developed in cooperation with RESOUREX: This metal marketplace will serve as the industry’s first digital Aluminum Service Center for Upcycling Products. Thanks to the online platform, the buying and selling process of aluminum scrap is made easy and without any additional costs. Customers achieve selling prices above the actual scrap values. At the same time, the marketplace serves as a platform for buying aluminum sheets and slit strips for various applications at low prices.

The service is primarily aimed at industrial customers, particularly in the automotive industry, but also at companies in the construction sector or manufacturers of metal goods, for example. Aluminum coils in particular are suitable for the upcycling process, i.e., aluminum even from vastly different manufacturing areas can be reused across industries. For example, the pre-material of a car hood can be reused as a construction sheet for various applications, offering very good paint and forming properties.

Becker LOOP Back Service: Industrial customers benefit from the recycling of their aluminum scrap

This service offer is expanded by LOOP Back. This additional Becker service recycles conventional aluminum scrap into valuable ’ready to cast’ scrap, enabling customers to significantly improve their own recycling content (RC). ’Ready to cast’ refers to scrap that foundries are feeding back into the primary aluminum product cycle in the melting process (based on a quality analysis). Only a few industrial companies have the opportunity to supply their suitable scrap directly to foundries, the Becker LOOP Back Service closes a gap in the market.

For companies with scrap of up to 100 tons per year, this service provides several key advantages. They participate in a high-quality cycle that pays off both economically and in terms of their own RC. In turn, these companies support their customers in decarbonizing their operations and in implementing the corresponding legal requirements. Both Becker aluminum solutions are a hands-on implementation of a ’cradle-to-gate’ approach, linking the customer’s production with the manufacturer’s production.
