HEAT PROCESSING 4 2025
Shaping the Future – Europe’s Next Leap in Industrial Innovation

Dear Reader,

Europe’s industrial heart continues to beat—driven by the pursuit of transformation. As Erik Míček notes in his editorial, Europe stands at a crossroads: fragmented strategies are no longer enough. What we need is a shared vision—a European masterplan that aligns innovation, sustainability, and technological sovereignty.

Nowhere is this spirit more tangible than in additive manufacturing. This issue of heat processing showcases how 3D printing and advanced material technologies are redefining the metals industry. From Deloro Wear Solutions’ research on cobalt-based alloys to Fraunhofer ILT’s large-scale additive die-casting tools for Toyota, the message is clear: the convergence of materials science, digitalization, and design freedom is reshaping how we think about production.

Innovation also emerges in automation and digital ecosystems. Demig’s modular control architecture shows how smart data, intuitive operation, and AI readiness can turn heat treatment into a connected, knowledge-driven process. At the same time, initiatives such as CECOF’s General Assembly in Bergamo highlight the value of international cooperation in times of uncertainty—reminding us that industrial progress depends as much on solidarity as on technology.

Hydrogen combustion, decarbonization, and flexible energy concepts, as discussed at the Aachen Thermoprocess Colloquium, underline a shared challenge: to make our processes cleaner without sacrificing competitiveness. Across all reports and interviews, one theme unites the voices in this issue—Europe’s ability to transform challenges into drivers of innovation.

As we look toward 2026, the question is not whether our industry can adapt, but how fast it can align innovation with integration. The answers, as always, begin with collaboration.

Wishing you an inspiring and forward-looking read!
